5 Myths of Pet Photography

Pet photography is an incredible medium to capture the love and affection we have for our furry friends. But with so many myths and misconceptions floating around, it can be tough to know if pet photography is something that you could do with your pet. I’m here to bust the myths that are in the front of your mind like My Dog Won't Sit Still or My Dog Can’t Be Off Leash. Get ready to capture incredible memories with your best furry friend.

1)    My dog won’t sit still

That is 100% okay! I promise that I successfully photograph hyper and untrained dogs all the time. When I photograph a dog, I’m using a shutter speed of at least 1/800th of a second. That means that I just need the teensiest bit of time to snap the photo! Additionally, I have an arsenal of treats, squeakers, and duck calls to get your dog’s attention, like my pal Brownie here. He LOVED the squeaker ball and gave me this most adorable expression!

2)    My dog can’t be off leash

Your dog’s safety is the utmost importance to me! We definitely want to use a leash in both an urban environment and in the wild.

Leashes are no sweat, because I have some handy photoshop tools that help me remove leashes, collars, and tags (see the before and after image below).

I can leave in collars and tags per client request and is something I always ask my clients. Sometimes collars are thematic or have a significant meaning and I will honor that for both you and your pet.

3)    I don’t know what I will do with professional photographs of my dog

Imagine you just woke up on your day off, poured yourself a cup of coffee or tea and walked over to your couch to cozy up with your dog while you enjoy the blissful moments of peace. You look at your coffee table and see a beautiful album sitting there with your dog’s name on it. You set down your coffee, pick it up and start looking through the pages one by one. The images bring you joy and gratitude as you continue to flip through each page. This tangible creation holds memories you have shared with the most adorable loving creature next to you.

Now think about how you’ll feel about this album in 25 years. You can cherish the carefree nature of your dog and your life together with something tangible for years to come. You can hold something real instead of scrolling through your phone.

Also, have I mentioned that an adorable image of your dog for your next holiday card is another great reason to get professional photos taken of your dog.

Lastly, wall art is an incredible way to highlight and cherish your dog in your home. Think of it as piece of your life that helps you see the good in each day, finding the joy in the small things (like peanut butter). You’ll cherish the life and bond you have with your best friend.

4)    I don’t have time

Time is an interesting concept because we are all so busy with life. We are enjoying experiences and out adventuring with our best friend. Our dog’s grow up quickly. They morph from puppy to adult in a blink of an eye and show signs of that adorable sugar-faced look before know it. It is important to make time, to capture the moments and memories we want to cherish forever.

With this dedicated time, have fun, let your dog do their thing, smell the roses, pee on the fire hydrant, or drink from the fountain! I’m here to make this you and your dog’s best day ever.

Also, in Atlanta you have no idea when a random rainstorm may pop up, so we budget our time to take a deep breath and have fun while we create something amazing just for you and your best friend.

5)    I would love some photographs of me with my dog, but I’m camera shy

Totally cool. I can capture images of your connection with your pet without you needing to look into my camera and smile. I will guide you through every step whether that is holding your pup’s paw or capturing your pet standing next to you showing off your companionship, besties for life.

I love to create candid moments that truly highlight your companionship; moments that are authentic and real to your friendship.

In conclusion, pet photography is a fun and memorable way to capture your beloved companion. By busting these myths, you can have meaningful art of your furry friend that captures their personality. So now that you're armed with all this knowledge, why not take a chance? Book a complimentary consultation with me today and let your pup strike a pose. Your walls (and social media feeds) will thank you. Woof!
